The fight continues for a pair of vacant North Davidson Street-area mills, now moving into its sixth round of bids.

Washington, D.C.-based The Community Builders placed an offer Thursday of $1,240,250 for the Johnston and Mecklenburg Mills property, upsetting the last high bid from Charlotte real estate firm Merrifield Patrick Vermillion.

The national affordable-housing developer had placed the original high offer of $610,00 for the historic properties Feb.

The high number of foreclosed properties, including foreclosed VA homes for sale, continues to affect California. Because of the massive foreclosure problem of the state, several of its cities have been named in Forbes’ list of most miserable regions in the U.S.

The number of foreclosed homes offered at Sacramento home auctions as well as in other foreclosure auctions held in different areas of the state has shown some decline last year, but the total number of distressed properties in the region remained one of the highest in the whole country. Two Ontario politicians have launched a proposal to get private property rights included in the Charter of Rights and Freedoms.

Federal MP Scott Reid (Lanark-Frontenac-Lennox and Addington) and MPP Randy Hillier (Lanark-Frontenac-Lennox and Addington) announced they will jointly present resolutions in the House of Commons and the Legislative Assembly of Ontario to amend Canada’s Constitution, embedding property rights within the Charter of Rights and Freedoms.
