For 15 years, Bishop Spencer Place, a faith-based, continuing care retirement community, has provided active, independent living at a premium location. The distinguished community is minutes from Kansas City’s famed Country Club Plaza district, putting residents within easy access to shopping, dining and entertainment.
Within Bishop Spencer Place, numerous activities and amenities await. Mendi Hanna, director of marketing for Bishop Spencer Place, said residents enjoy ballroom dancing, woodworking and gardening. Community staff works to constantly solicit feedback from residents in order to meet an array of interests, and is considering adding a greenhouse area for those who seek indoor gardening.
“We want residents to come while they can and enjoy a vibrant, rich life,” Hanna said.
Prospective residents can choose from a variety of floor plans in the community’s Madison and Jefferson buildings. Prices range from $78,000 to $423,000, depending on the size of the home and the refundable option selected by the buyer. Each apartment includes features like crown molding, generous walk-in closets, 9-foot ceilings in the main living area, a full range of electric kitchen appliances including a microwave and the option to select custom upgrades.
Bishop Spencer Place offers maintenance-provided living, meaning residents have the freedom to enjoy all of the activities and amenities the community has to offer, or spend time pursuing other interests like travel. Monthly maintenance packages provide for housekeeping, maintenance, utilities and transportation.
Convenience and flexibility are key attributes of Bishop Spencer Place, even when it comes to things like dining. With dining services provided by PB&J Restaurants, residents can opt for a casual meal in the community’s bistro or choose five-star fine dining. A pub-style happy hour is an ideal way to start the evening and gather with friends before enjoying a meal or heading out for dining and entertainment on the Plaza.
To accommodate a variety of healthcare needs, Bishop Spencer Place offers access to several levels of care ranging from private-duty care to assisted living and skilled nursing. The community is also affiliated with nearby Saint Luke’s Hospital, giving residents and their families peace of mind in knowing that one of Kansas City’s top hospitals is minutes away.
When taking into account all that Bishop Spencer Place has to offer, Hanna said there’s a reason the community has been around for more than 15 years, thanks to a decidedly different approach to the senior lifestyle.
“It’s not the senior living you would expect,” she said.
